A Head Full of Ideas

Mary Quant bonnet at the V&A Quant exhibition

Isn’t it so good when your head buzzes with colour and excitement of new sewing ideas? I love that feeling so much, and it’s not just in the head either. The impulse to make things is energy-giving and makes it hard to sit still, doesn’t it? Show me the fabric!

But there’s a problem. Often, this bundle of ideas in my head is so big, I don’t manage it very well. Mostly I just don’t know where to start! Unless I move quick, life moves on so fast – it’s a new month, different season, the sun’s out, it’s raining, there’s a new colour in town, I’m a dress size up this season, and the problem or impulse has switched itself up! So I end up back at my quick fix collection of cobbled-together looks I call a wardrobe and try again to figure out a plan.

This I find frustrating! There are wardrobe dilemmas I want to solve.

So it’s time to sit down with this head full of ideas and make something with it. Taking good care of myself, and interacting with the planet I live on and the people I move amongst in a more loving and sustainable way strikes me as a blooming lovely way to be.
