The Cutie Wrap Top
We’ve just had another really amazing Glow Sew retreat at fforest this March, making up the Cutie from one of my new Pattern Posters. It’s such a versatile pattern and as you can see, everyone played with their own hacks and truly made each garment a one off!
As we worked on it, I realised there are a couple of points on the poster than need slightly more clarification, so figured a little post would be a helpful reference point.
The pattern is designed so you can adapt it to your own unique recipe, and requires taking a few simple measurements to get started. You add some ease to these measurements, then in true minimal / zero waste style, do a little bit of maths and get clever with your fabric.
In this MEASUREMENTS section, the second one is known as measurement ‘B’ – rib circumference. It says to ‘add 10cm’ but here is the clarification:
10cm will be taken up with all your seam allowances, so the wrap will *just* kiss together centre front with this much ease. To ensure a little crossover at the front of the wrap and therefore more room to place buttons, I advise adding more to your basic measurement to begin with – nearer 16cm. If you have a fuller bust, perhaps try 20cm as a starting point.
The next thing that needs clarifying is later in the pattern – in the CUTTING OUT section.
Measuring up the waistband, it says ‘rib circumference’ + 3cm. To be clear, this should be your ‘Measurement B’ number +3cm.
I hope this helps make your workings out a bit easier. As I say with all these patterns, the key is to find your own unique recipe of dimensions. Work with it, experiment, and home in on the best combination for your body shape.
Please do get in touch if you have any questions, and happy stitching!
