Zadie Jumpsuit Joy

Sometimes, fabric speaks to you before you’re ready to actually make the move of wearing it. This pink linen was one such case, but the pull was strong!

After probably four years of seeing this fuschia winking at me from my stash, a ray of sunshine and a good day caught me on an up, so the pink Zadie began.

This was such a joy to sew up. A warm day in June, I cut out all the pieces at the studio then decamped over the Fforest for the weekend, where I was teaching a lettering workshop. Inbetween my session and meal times I set up in the little barn or the veranda of our cabin and breezed through this very easy pattern. Birds singing, dogs snuffling around, gentle chat drifting on the air – I love fresh air sewing!

So far, I’ve found Friday Pattern Company patterns to be very easy to follow, with some nice design twists without needing advanced sewing skills. This satisfies the need for a quick sew that packs a little drama.

I followed the most common advice for fit adjustments, and took a punt on shortening for my height and went for it. Darts instead of pleats at the waist help give this some skimming qualities and because it’s a wrap tie it hugs as you want it around a tummy that comes and goes. That’s all good with me!

My toile for this was made in midwinter from an inexpensive cotton corduroy, and remarkably worked beautifully first time. I have chunks of time where I practically live in these, so will definitely be making more.

I love this jumpsuit – a soft, bouncy, generous and joyful fuschia pink linen dream, and really quite crumpled, because I love it and wear it.
